Between August 15 and 18, hundreds of thousands of people converged on a farm in upstate New York for the Woodstock Festival, getting massively fucked up and dancing in the rain and giving an entire generation its defining I-was-there moment. Between August 9 and 10 of the same year, the Manson Family horribly murdered eight people, including a movie star and a little kid. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon.
